March 3, 1943 Memorandum for Lt. Rogers--- Your letter of Feb. 19th. received. Glade will be informed of the situation as regards his pay account. Stanley and Goodman do not rate any extra money for mess cooking, according to Lt. Comdr. Hawkins, as they were not sent over to Afognak as mess cooks, but as a part of the squadron duty section. They did work in the galley for a while but no record of the dates they performed such detail was kept, so their own recollection is all there is to go by. As you probably know, Roebuck, Keenen, Hall and I are now officially in VS-49. Thorpe is leaving for Dutch as soon as the weather permits together with two VS-49 pilots who are ferrying planes to Dutch. The new set-up should simplify your bookeeping considerably. We're sorry to leave your Squadron, and wish you and all the others the best of luck. As you doubtless realize, the former set-up was not entirely satisfactory, as it caused some confusion concerning the administrative details of VS6, and from our standpoint, being on temporary duty away from our squadron had obvious disadvantages. Again I would like to wish you all happy landings, and if I can ever be of any service to you, here, I hope you will let me know. R. W. Fletcher, Jr.
