HEADQUARTERS FORT GREELY OFFICE OF THE COMMANDING GENERAL KODIAK, ALASKA June 3, 1942 MEMORANDUM: To Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers, Fort Greely. Japs have attacked Dutch Harbor. We do not know the results of this attack. The Japs came a long way and we were thoroughly on the alert throught Alaska. We do not know the size of the Jap force but I believe that the advantage is ours. We will very probably have an air attack here. From now on, until this situation is over, all observation posts and others charged with the duty of observation, must be keenly alert. The remainder of the command should get the maximum rest. Everyone on the post should sleep in his clothes with his weapon and ammunition at hand. If an air alert sounds everyone must get to his slit-trench with his weapon ready to fire on hostile aircraft. As soon as an air raid is over, he must be prepared to join his company or detachment quickly and without confusion. If the Japs come here, we are going to give them the whipping of their lives. CHARLES H. CORLETT Brigadier General, U.S.A. Commanding.
