Coinjock was part of the Albemarle Metro EAS area. The CO used Automatic Electric Strowger switching with the type 101 director system. The microwave path was to Mamie, Corolla and Elizabeth City with Lenkurt 74 radios and flyswatter or periscope reflectors on the tower for the trunkline paths and a tower mounted dish for Corolla. There was open wire to Moyock using Lenkurt 45A carrier. The other mux was Lenkurt 45BX for circuits to Elizabeth City and Mamie. The 45A had a 4-channel group HF connected to the microwave for Moyock to Mamie EAS circuits. This CO served Corolla from circa 1970 with a line concentrator on Panhandle X subscriber carrier over Lenkurt 74 microwave radio.

Coinjock was one of the older COs in the N&CT&T area and still had a group or two of TPL Strowger connector switches. These were unique as they used the last three digits of the dialed number, the last digit determining the ring code for the party line. As many of the party lines had been converted to private lines, you can see a great many Coinjock numbers in the 1963 directory ended in the digit 1. Later directories in my collection have all Albemarle Area listings in one big list. The 1963 directory has seperate listings for each town as that was before the metro EAS was created.
